Abroad
Many missions took place during and after the bombing of Serbia (1999-2002). "World Pharmacists" donated medical supplies mainly to Pediatric and Ongological Hospitals (Belgrade, Nis).
- "World Pharmacists"
carried out 2 missions in Bulgaria, donating medicines to the hospital of Sofia (2002) and eye glasses to the Opthalmological hospital of Varna (2000).
- Several missions to Africa, namely Malawi, Zambia, S. Africa and Djibouti and Tanzania took place. A significant quantity of medicines and parapharmaceuticals were donated to main hospitals of these
countries between 2000 and 2007. A Branch of "World Pharmacists" was established in Lusaka (Zambia) and another Branch in Georgetown / Eden District (South Africa).
- April 2003, "World Pharmacists" donated medicines to hospitals in Baghdad, whilst looking into the possibility of continuous intervention, which finally was deemed not possible due to
political changes in Iraq and Palestine. The transport and donation of the medicines took place through Amman (Jordan) in 2002.
- January 2005, a quantity of medicines and medical devices was donated from "W.P." to the main hospital of Banda Aceh (Indonesia), after the city was seriously damaged by the terrible tsunami.
October 2005, a mission was undertaken in Pakistani Kashmir. Medicines were donated to the hospitals of Muzafarabat, Balakot and Manschera for the victims of the earthquake. "World Pharmacists" continued their medicine donations to Pakistan till the beginning of 2006.
- A medicopharmaceutical mission to Djibouti "Paul Faure" hospital was realized with the support of the Greek Ministry of foreign Affairs and the cooperation of the "Medecins du Monde" NGO (2005).
- Medicopharmaceutical supplies were forwarded by "World Pharmacists" to Lusaka hospital/Zambia, (March 20-30, 2006). The Organization's president was invited to speak during the celebration of the "World Day Against TB and AIDS" (March 24, 2006), which took place ar Rosemoor Stadium (George-S. Africa).
- On June 2006 first medicopharmaceutical supplies were delivered by "W.P." to hospitals in Georgia and the Republic of Armenia.
A mission delivering medicines to hospitals in Lebanon has already been carried out (September 2006).
- A new mission to the hospitals and AIDS clinics in Lusaka (Zambia) and S. Africa was completed on November 1st, 2006.
- A mission delivering medicopharmaceutical supplies to Iringa (Tanzania) and Djibouti (May 2007).
In Greece:
Supplying "First Aid" kits and medicines to Institutions with "Children with special needs" in Athens and the larger Attica area (1998-2005).
- Medicine supply to the "Red Crescent" station of Kurd refugees, in Athens.
- Collection and donation to needy people of new and used eye glasses and lenses.
- Medicopharmaceutical aid to the victims of the earthquake in Athens and the island of Zakynthos (1999-2000).
Participation in university Seminars and Conventions, meetings and presentations concerning health, social and enviromental problems of suffering populations.
- Special medical care for the Greek population of the border islands.
- Vaccination programs (2005-2006) for the children of refugees
in the Keratsini (Piraeus) area.
- Cooperation with other NGOs (MdM, Red Cross e.t.c) and Associations in Greece in programmes and missions to ensure the education of local health workers.
- A new pilot program aimed at educating students about volunteering and humanitarian missions.
On all the missions, volunteer-members of the Organisation participated.
All the medical and sanitary services are provided free-of-charge to individuals, groups and populations who show corresponding needs, in spite of race, nationality, religion or political belief.
Members of "World Pharmacists" accompanied the material during these missions, ccordinating all the necessary procedures till the distribution of the material to it's final recipient.
Apart
from missions which were accompanied by WP members, material has been sent to the following countries as an aid in emergency situations.
These were: Honduras 1998 (Hurricane Mitch), Egypt 2000 (assisting homes for the elderly), India 2002 (earthquake-stricken Gujarat), Iran 2004 (earthquake-stricken Bam), Cuba 2003 (support of paediatric clinics), Afghanistan 2002-2004 (healthcare programmes), Armenia (supporting the needy), etc.
"World Pharmacists" is registered in the NGO official files of the Greek and Foreign Ministries of Foreign Affairs (No 12/2000), the Ministry of Health and other Greek and Foreign Authorities. Some of the missions (especially to Balcans and Africa), were made possible by the co-funding or financial contribution of individuals, Ministries and Associations.
