"World Pharmacists" is a humanitarian non-govermental Organization (NGO) which was officialy established in Athens (Greece) in November 1997. It was founded by a group of pharmacists who, realizing the degree of individualism which exists in modern society, decided to coordinate their efforts and to recruit volunteers, not only from the field of pharmacy. Beyond their work as professionals and scientists, pharmacists have an important role to play in offering humanitarian aid. Although the Organization started in Greece, it has created branches in other countries. Now, it's members include pharmacists, as well as non-pharmacists from Greece and abroad.

The Organization's main objectives include:

• The collection, scientific control and packaging of medicines, which are then donated, through planned missions, to groups in need, institutions and hospitals in various countries.
• Participating in health-related projects in collaboration with other NGOs and appropriate Authorities (Ministries, WHO, FIP e.t.c.), or in seminars and conferences.
• Training of medical staff in health programs.
• Assessments of health and social problems in collaboration with Organizations interested.
• Continuous effort to encourage pharmacists and other healthcare professionals and other volunteer citizens to participate in Humanitarian projects.

During the 9 years of its existence, the Organization's development has been based on individual members capabilities and a spirit of volunteering.
Although the NGO "World Pharmacists" started in Greece everyone, regardless of profession and country of origin, can participate in the humanitarian efforts of the Organization in any way. Today the more than 500 members of the Organization come, mostly, from Greece but also from Cyprus, Serbia, Italy, Nigeria, Zambia, South Africa and the U.S.A.
A seven member Board of Directors of the NGO "World Pharmacists" is elected every 3 years. The Board is responsible for all activities, projects, missions and representation of the Organization, in Greece and abroad.
All the activities are undertaken on a volunteer basis, and everyone, regardless of his/her profession, is welcome to offer help and cooperation.
